A brilliant day yesterday at the LKSC Race what your ride event! It was great to see the competitive spirit take to the water especially in the line up to start, with a range of different kites, sizes and board choices! We had a great view from the boat with some brilliant attempts to get off the start line first and some real close racing throughout the afternoon.
In round 1 we held three 2 lap races and a good judge that competitors enjoyed it was their eagerness to do a second round of three 1 lap races after an update on riders scores and positions. It was all to play for in round two where the wind picked up and the racing was even faster and more competitive.
By round two, the riders were really in the swing of the flag sequence, attacking the start line and even applying tactics to race efficiently and competitively around the course.
By the end of 6 races the results were totalled and there were some well earned podium finishes;
1st – Rich De Silvo
2nd – Christine Johnston
3rd – Anuradha WJ
Other notable results were from Richard Morris just pipping Dan Charlish on equal points but more races completed, Ryan Flynn for a great set of results in round 2 and Dave Funnell for great enthusiasm and determination, especially in race 6!
And finally a HUGE THANK YOU
First of all to the COMPETITORS for making Race What You Ride such a fun and exciting event.
Eunice Bergin for beach support and some amazing photo’s.

We are less than 2 weeks from Lancing’s moment in the spotlight. You have been part of one of the largest clubs and active kite scenes over the last 7 years and we have been asked by the BKA and the kite industry to to kick off the newly formed 2015 tour.Hopefully you have read this far, this bit is important! We have heard some peoples comments that a freestyle contest is not for them, they told us they want more big air! Well… its ok! the amateurs category is being run in the spirit of big air!!! So hold back no more and enter here
This event is your opportunity to share time on the water with some of the best riders in the UK, to meet the brands and try the latest equipment (our biggest demo EVER!), plus a Saturday night party. The majority of the UK kitesurfing industry will be descending on Lancing. Our club members need to represent!
We need your help and support to make this event a success, we need volunteers over the weekend for beach marshals, event set-up and clean up. If you would like to help out then just reply to this email.
Wind prayers, dances and sacrifices for the 30th and 31st all welcome!
LKSC are proud to support the British Kitesports, Kiteworld and IKSURFMAG national freestyle – the first of the 3 stop British tour for 2015. This is a fresh approach to re-invigorate the grass roots and club level of kitesurfing. The national tour has an equal focus on amateur level riding as much as the pro fleet.
The amateur classes, for both men and women will focus on fun competition in the style of Big Air, handle pass tricks will not score. Styling boosts, grabs and rotations are the foundation for this category – more big air than blind judge 3 (whatever that is!).
“We’re really excited to be coming down to Lancing and working with the club to deliver this event, it’s been a while since a proper freestyle tour has happened in the UK and Lancing is the perfect location to kick start the series!” – Rou Chater – IKSURFMAG
Top UK riders are signing up to throw down at our local spot – Tom Bridge the latest signing will be battling out in the Pro Mens. Lancing beach boost regular world champion visitors this year see a likely appearance from Kevin Langeree, past World Champion and Red Bull King of the Air. Of course our local kiting superstar Lewis will be the event MC and commentator.
Depending on the numbers attending each event there may be changes to these categories. We are really excited to see lots of local riders entering the competition and so the amateur fleet will not be scoring handle-pass manoeuvres. The pro fleet is aimed at being a feeder for the World Tour, and will be judged accordingly.
The format for the events will be a Double Elimination to allow us time to get through all the heats. If conditions limit time this will switch to a Single Elimination to allow us to complete the event as fully as possible.
You will need to PRE REGISTER for each event, THERE WILL BE NO CASH REGISTRATIONS ON THE DAY. This will free up our time to run the competition. Enter Here!

After the successful open event last year, we are hosting another twin tip and race board event. We will be holding a number of races through the day, and each category should get at least a couple of races. Twin tips and surfboards will race together. Free-race and Box Class will race together. There are medal’s and will declare winners and runner ups in each of the 4 category. This is all about getting involved, and enjoying the thrill of speed and close proximity kiting. We will probably run a couple of different courses, out and back [ reach ], and a upwind course too. We will decide if the event is happening on Friday afternoon; on the 25/7. Low tide is 18:25, so lets hope for thermal top for some extra wind! Entry is £5, and will be refunded if the event is called off. Please register for the event with the button below.
